Deep in the mountains of Doshor Irethe lies the dank, sulferous region of Stygg. Consisting of an endless, subterranean labyrinth of smoking craters, dank tunnels, and perpetual darkness, there are very few in Eshathar who have ventured within, and none of those individuals have ever emerged from the catacombs. It is this infernal wasteland that the Stygians call home.
There is no government, society, or culture in Stygg. The closest thing to any sort of order are the Castes of the creatures called Stygians, though Demons would be a more accurate term. They have no concept of race, nor of kingdom. They exist simply to perform a function, and that function is derived from the breed of the demons spewed forth from the Cauldrawns.
This region was once called Doshor Caine, and it was the hallowed halls of the Dwarven race. Where it was once spotless and well-maintained, it is now encrusted with filth and excrement. Where it was once the center of a thriving trade in metals and gemstones, it is now forsaken by any living creature with a brain in its skull. All that remains of its former glory are the caches of precious metals, weapons, and conclaves that once fulfilled the needs of a mighty race.
Nobody quite knows where the Stygians came from, although the Dwarves stubbornly insist they came from Calagh, the primordial Devil-God. All that is known for certain is that the Styg are brutal, overwhelming foes, pouring seemingly endless numbers of voracious and fearless monsters into battle, the Stygians are universally feared, though they have rarely been seen outside of Stygg.
Stygg operates almost like an enormous bee hive, with the Cauldrawn acting as queens. Countless thousands of workers and warriors swarm all throughout the tunnels, attending to the needs of the 'queens'. However, few Stygians ever leave the 'hive'. It is unknown how they acquire food or water, or if they even need either. Stygians also have no form of currency or barter whatsoever, as daemons will simply take what they want from weaker daemons. There are many stores of old dwarven riches throughout Stygg, and though they are not used as currency, they are often fought over, with the winner jealously hoarding his spoils.
