Wyvern Caen is the name given to a large Canid agricultural settlement located about 20 miles west of the Ivorsherlet forest. Unique in being the only Canid settlement outside the forest, Wyvern Caen is a sort of 'grand experiment', and seen as more of a colony than a town. Aside from nomadic groups of Elves within the forest, Wyvern Caen is the only contact most other races will ever have with Canids, and the only place where Terrans and Canids can interact without hostilities.
The Caen has two distinct districts: a wide expanse of farmlands speckled with caretaker huts and windmills known as the Gold District, and a cluster of homes, shops, and even a few smithies surrounded by a castle-like fortification at the south end of the city, known as the Silver District. The majority of the population is comprised of Lunis laborers working the fields, though there are some Avians in the small Army regiment stationed there, as well as a few assorted Consortium's in the shops. Wyvern Caen also boasts the largest native population of mole-like Digger kin, who live primarily in the Silver District.
Despite its remoteness compared to the Canid power base inside the forest, Wyvern Caen is fairly well-protected. As with all Canid settlements, every citizen of the city is required to attend militia training at least two days a week. All adult-age males in a family must have, and know how to use, a sword or axe and a bow or crossbow. All females are required to have working knowledge of bows or crossbows and first aid. In addition to a semi-military populace, Wyvern Caen has a regiment of professional soldiers permanently stationed within the Silver District's walls, which includes half a dozen Avian sharpshooters and three Bear kin berserkers.
As a last resort contingency, Wyvern Caen also contains nearly 28 miles of subterranean tunnels, about an eighth of a mile below the surface. There are nearly three hundred tunnel entrances throughout the city, though all are hidden so carefully as to be nearly impossible to find. Within these tunnels lie several storehouses and wells, in addition to barracks and emergency shelters. One of these tunnels, and only one, connects to the Canid military headquarters in the forest beneath Llanivaya. This tunnel in particular is guarded 24 hours a day at both ends by Canid soldiers.
Though Canids in general are distrustful of others, the locals at Wyvern Caen have a much more lax attitude toward strangers, and actively trade with many merchants of many races. For the most part, Wyvern Caen exists as an independent city-state. Llanivayan legislature does not apply to Wyvern Caen, no taxes or tributes are collected, and there is no representative of the Caen in Llanivayan government. Wyvern Caen is governed by a Council, which consists of seven members elected by the general populace. The councilors all serve for a decade, and cannot be re-instated even if elected by the populace.
