Name: Sorien Denegar
Race: Canid
Gender: female
Place of Birth: Llanivaya
Arcane or Secular: Both. The diverse blood that runs through her veins allows Sorien to wield any spell or use any machine.
Physical Description: Sorien Denegar is a Canid of the Lunis clan. She bears a close resemblance to a wolf, and shares the elongated muzzle and pointed ears that is common to her clan. Her fur is a tawny brown color, similar to a darker shade of beige. There are black colorations along her forearms from the elbow to fingertips, and similar black markings from her knees to her toes. This gives the impression that she is wearing elbow-length gloves and knee-high boots.
Sorien wears fineries not typical of her race and clan, due in no small part to her place in the Llanivayan political scene. While not a politician, she is married to one, and her main role in the body politic is that of a figurehead. She lives up to this task with an ease that makes it almost seem natural, and is quite fond of both elegant soirees and downing a few ales at the pub with the commoners.
Personality: Sorien is fiercely protective of both her husband and her two children, as one would expect of any mother, let alone the already-protective Canid race. Although she is more tolerant of other peoples than the majority of her kind, she is far from being an advocate of inter-kingdom unity, and has more than once been at the head of the line of those who want more stringent patrols of the forest's borders.
Unlike most of Llanivaya's political figures, Sorien is not content to stay within the city, and has on several occasions ventured out into the forest. This makes her a popular figure with the general Canid population, and that fact has kept her husband Loth in the Judicator spot for nearly a decade. Because she is so popular with the masses, Sorien is able to garner public support almost instantly, and should volunteers be required for almost any task, all she would have to do is ask, and thousands of Canids would line up to serve her.
Background: Sorien is the daughter of a human mother and a Canid father. This alone is quite rare, as Canids look at humans with distaste at best, and revulsion at worst. Her mother, in addition to being human, was also the legendary huntress Caeliyaan...though none save her father are privy to that information. Her children suspect such to be the case, but both are too young to truly comprehend the implications of it.
This makes Sorien's bloodline the most racially diverse anywhere in Eshathar, enabling her, and her children, to wield both Arcane powers, and mechanical prowess. In short, Magic or Machine makes no difference, she can use them both. Sorien is also well-traveled for a Canid. She is a frequent visitor of the Canid colony of Wyvern Caen. Since this is the only real contact between Canids and other races, Sorien encounters other peoples often enough at the colony.
Sorien was raised by her aunt and uncle, though she has always considered them her mother and father. Her birth mother was the legendary Huntress, Caeliyaan, and her father was a Canid named Wire. Although she was not raised by her birth parents, she was not abandoned...Caeliyaan died shortly after childbirth, and Wire, try as he might, was too heartbroken to raise her. She was given to the care of Wire's brother, who was incapable of fathering children due to an old war wound.
Sorien grew up a happy, if not a little coddled, child, and lived with her aunt and uncle in Llanivaya. This privileged upbringing brought her into contact with many prominent Canid figures, one of whom was a bold, up-and-coming male named Loth. He would eventually become her husband and father to her children, in addition to rising to the position of Judicator in the Canid political scene. She has, through no small amount of cunning and guile, kept her ancestry a secret from both her family and her race. In an effort to alleviate her mind of the stress caused by this secrecy, she keeps a well-hidden journal chronicling everything she has learned about her family's past.
Sorien can speak not only Common, but the native tongue of Lunis, Weavers, Elven, and Dwarvish. The latter two she learned while under imprisonment in Erchaea when she was a young woman. Of all the people in Eshathar, Sorien is the only living being to have survived the trip to Erchaea. It was here that she discovered her link to the famed huntress- who had also once had an audience with the Lich.
This does not make the Lich, or the Undead Horde in general, her allies. The Lich only spared her life out of curiosity, as no living being ever willingly marched into Erchaea. Impressed by her audacity, the Lich disclosed some of his knowledge of her mother- a subject the Lich knows a great deal about, only a small portion of which he informed her of. Sorien carries with her an ancient silver ring with a single black stone on it. This stone contains a magically-inscribed sigil, placed there by the Lich himself. This prevents any Undead or Necrid anywhere from harming her, and allows her passage into and out of Erchaea at any time. Unbeknown to her, it also acts as a magical homing beacon, allowing the Lich to know, at any given time, where Sorien is.
The black stone in her ring is made from a small amount of the ashes of Calasi's child, which the Lich had recovered before Turalee was destroyed: this provides Sorien with some measure of protection against Calasi, who is not affected by the Lich's link as other undead. Though neither of them know about the true nature of the little black gem, the lingering love Calasi felt for her baby so long ago keeps Calasi in a state of magically-induced calm if she is close to the ring.
Skills/Talents: Sorien is able to wield spells, though she doesn't do so very often and prefers only using spells of protection or healing. She is capable of much more complex and destructive magic, but patently refuses to use it except in extreme situations, or when her family is in danger. Though her first instinct is to get her children and her husband out of harm's way, she is not above using powerful spells as a show of force to frighten enemies into capitulating.
In addition, she is an avid tinkerer, and is fond of taking things apart to see how they work. She is considered to be an expert in mechanics among the Canids, who don't usually use mechanized creations. It is Sorien who discovered how the fearsome Terran Firebreathers worked, and devised a method of incapacitating them. Sorien is also the main sponsor of the newly-devised Canid Engineering Corps, which deconstructs captured war machines in an attempt to adapt their technology for Canid use, or devise methods of incapacitating them.
Politically, Sorien is a cunning and indisputably clever woman. Though not officially recognized as a governmental figure, Sorien often takes an active role, and has on occasion served in Loth's place when he was ill or out of the city for whatever reason. It is one of her policies that keeps a standing, professional army beneath the city at all times, and it was her idea to have an entire Corps dedicated to avian scouts and archers alone. She served on a council of advisors for the experimental colony of Wyvern Caen, and the wealth it has brought to Llanivaya, as well as the wealth of information and reconnaissance, has proven invaluable.
Weaknesses: Like her people in general, Sorien is mistrustful of outsiders, especially Terrans. Additionally, she is deeply ashamed of her bloodline and her parentage, fearing that if the populace found out she was the daughter of an infamous Murderer and Criminal, not only would she be in danger, her husband and children would be as well. Her insatiable curiosity and need to prove herself can be detrimental as well, as more than once Sorien has found herself in dangerous situations due to her own brazen actions.
Her greatest weakness is her overprotective attitude toward her family, especially the children. She keeps the discoveries made about her heritage secret, even from Loth. In combat, Sorien is an ineffectual fighter, preferring to keep a distance and utilize ranged weapons or spells. Sorien seldom finds herself in such situations, and prefers stealth and diplomacy to combat.
Mary Sue Rationale: Aside from a general "can do everything" impression, the use of spells and machines is vehemently against the rules.
