Most of the Rules for Scrolls of Eshathar are fairly simple, common sense solutions to prevent common problems in any free-forum based RPG. The game is dependent upon each member and the quality of their minds. However, to avoid any unpleasant confrontations, here is a brief list of the things to avoid here at SoE.
NO GODMODDING - Godmodding is an umbrella term, used to describe anything from: posting for the same character in such rapid succession as to deny any other characters the chance to respond, killing another player's character, posting in such a manner that your character cannot be hit, damaged, touched, or affected in any way by any other character's actions, or a character performing actions that are impossible for them to do, such as a 70-year-old-man character lifting a house and throwing it into the ocean.
Nobody likes godmodders. If any of the staff receive complaints that someone is godmodding, that member will get a warning, and the offending posts removed or edited.
NO PLAGIARIZING - Plagiarizing, to be blunt, is copying someone else's work and claiming it as your own. In posts, copying the dialogue of a previous post is permissible, for the purpose of continuing that dialogue. BUT copying a character bio, an in-character post without dialogue, or using a character that is not yours (even from other boards), is NOT. Plagiarism is not only stupid and cruel, but ILLEGAL. ANY PLAGIARISM WILL BE MET WITH IMMEDIATE IP-BANNING. Don't steal. Seriously.
SPELL/TECH USAGE - Arcane users cannot use the machines created in the Schematics board, and secular users cannot use any spells whatsoever. This is to give the game more of a balance, and to give secular characters a better chance against arcane users. See the Grimoirum and Schematics boards for more details.
NO PUPPETING - Puppeting is posting for a character that you do not own without permission. If you and another player agree to what sort of actions will occur in a post, please specify that somewhere, so that admin can verify all actions were permitted. Minor actions, like waving or saying hello/goodbye are permissible.
NO FLAMING - Insulting other members is strictly forbidden. If a member has said something about you that you find offensive, PM the admins with what they said and where (if it was in a PM, send a copy of the PM as well as the timestamp, etc. for verification). FLAMING IS NOT TOLERATED. There's no need for it, and all it does is create problems and drama.
NO TROLLING - Trolling is posting inflammatory remarks in the hopes of instigating a conflict. As with flaming, it is prohibited. Any trolling posts will immediately be deleted.
NO SPAMMING IC BOARDS - If you have a board, blog, funny link, etc., fine and dandy. Such information does not belong in In-Character boards. Use the OOC boards, the RAWR!!1 board, or the Advert board. Anywhere else and it'll be deleted.
KILLING CHARACTERS - NPC characters CANNOT be killed, period. PC's can be killed only in the following circumstances: the owner of the character being killed approves; OR the PC is killed in the Colosseum as per the Colosseum's combat system. ANY VIOLATION OF THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE 2-WEEK BAN. After the 2 weeks are up, the staff and I will decide whether to make a ban permanent or not. Permanent bans are IP-bans, as well, so it is in everyone's best interest to simply avoid this infraction in the first place.
JOINING - To join, first read the Rules. Reading the History and such, while not required, is helpful. Then, use the Blank Character Template to create a character, and post it in the Bios section. If approved- i.e. "stamped"- you can start playing ASAP. Applications are never rejected without an explanation. Keep in mind, your application will be honestly critiqued, and this is not to cause embarrassment or anything of the sort, but rather to help the character fit in to the environment better, or to improve your skills as a role-player. If you do not make the recommended edits, or any sort of response, we will assume that you have lost interest, and your bio will eventually be deleted. Please be sure to post a reply if you have made any edits, so that the staff knows you are paying attention and still interested.
In the event that conflicts on the boards occur, which I hope doesn't happen, these rules may be expanded or clarified. If that ever happens, I'll post an announcement to let everyone know.
