Krelyst Kain is the name given to a dead-zone within Ivorsherlet. There are trees here, but they are gnarled and decrepit. A stagnant bog sits in the center of this blighted area, and even the usual denizens of decay do not live here. There are no serpents, toads, or insects in Krelyst Kain, only the cruel fingers of dead trees, slow gurgle of the great bog, and luminescent glow of the various fungal forms that inhabit the area.
The Canids believe that Krelyst Kain was once the home of one of the races lost in the War of Oblivion, and they killed themselves en masse rather than fall at the hands of enemies. It is believed that the state of Krelyst Kain is the result of these people's bitter spirits, who ruined their own land rather than let an enemy make use of it. It is these same spirits, the Canids claim, that prevent any living thing from taking the home they so jealously guarded in life...and now continue to do so in death.
These myths, while effectively keeping Canids away, have not completely deterred other peoples. There is a small Human village in Krelyst Kain, which is the only human presence anywhere in the forest. These hardy individuals have managed to survive thanks to an ingenious steam-powered rig that siphons nutrients out of the rot within the soil. This allows these few humans to maintain a small community garden that supplements the plentiful game found in the living forest. Great care must be taken to avoid Canid detection, for even though Canids rarely go near Krelyst Kain, it is still a risk that is not worth taking.
