As with the Grimoirum, the Schematics board is unique to Eshathar, as a place where members can directly affect what sort of weapons and devices can be used in the game. This is where all aspiring inventors can create wonders of engineering, to be used in the game.
Like the Grimoirum, there are some restrictions as to who can use the technologies researched here. Namely, this board is for characters who CANNOT use magic, whether because of their Race (such as Humans) or because the player who created the character specified that they cannot wield magic.
Unlike the Grimoirum, in which no spells can be used except those approved, in Eshathar it is common knowledge that some technologies are available from the start to anybody. These include basic weapons such as swords, clubs, bows, crossbows, etc. The most basic technologies don't have to be applied for, and can be used by every character, including arcane ones.
Picture Ancient Greece. Any technology that existed then is considered basic enough for all characters to use. This includes things like loricated mail armor, javelins, and crossbows. It does NOT include Trebuchets, Siege Towers, Bolas, etc. And it most DEFINITELY does not include fantasy technologies, like steam-operated automatic crossbows or suchlike.
Technology in Eshathar has progressed to the point just before gunpowder was discovered. As such, no firearms are allowed if they use gunpowder, so no cannons, machine guns, etc. Steam, coal, wood, and oil are the fuel sources allowed in the game, so no nuclear submarines or gasoline-powered airplanes. Basically, think Steampunk without guns.
Aside from that, the only limit is imagination.
Here's the template for new technology. Just copy & paste the code into a new post, delete the italicized bits, and fill out the form. After review by myself or the staff, it'll be added to the Tome. Your original application will be deleted afterward, so that the board doesn't get clogged with old approved apps.
Player Name: (If you want to invent something, but don't want to use it, you are allowed to do so, but we'll need a name to credit it to)
Character Name: (Leave blank if you don't have a character that is capable of inventing things, or if you just want the invention to be available in general)
Purpose: (All machines have a purpose, a task that they are specifically created to do. Much as the purpose of a catapult is to fling big heavy things and the purpose of barbs on an arrowhead is to keep it from falling out of a victim, every machine, from the most basic to the most complex, is designed to *do* something. Here is where you tell us what your machine is supposed to do. Be as specific as possible)
Appearance: (Describe what your machine looks like. Again, be detailed. VERY detailed. If you are applying for a machine that already exists in the Real World, provide a picture.)
Construction: (What is your machine MADE of, how is it made, etc. Explain the process by which the machine is made, the materials it is made from and the manner in which those materials are assembled. No machine ever just appears.)
Operation: (What does your machine run on as a fuel source? How does a person use it? Does a person need to be trained in order to do so? Explain all of these things, as completely as you can.)
Retail Value: (Let's face it, average peasants aren't going to have access to a Locomotive. Explain here who would have access to your machine, or who, in general, could afford to build/buy it)
