Welcome to the Grimoirum, the ever-expanding tome of magical knowledge in Eshathar.
This board is basically a place to create your own spells. If you play a mage, or magic-using character, and you want a specific spell, you can't simply post with it, the spell has to be approved by an Admin first. That way, we don't have anyone casting a superpowerful spell in a post.
Rules are pretty simple, but must follow the Template provided. While at Eshathar we do not have any sort of stat-based or experience-based posting rules, it is generally preferred that a new character not be endowed with the ability to cast powerful spells, so please keep this in mind when you ask for a spell.
No spells may be cast in-character unless approved in the Grimoirum first. However, if another player/character applies for, say, a Fireball spell and it is approved, you do not have to apply for a separate Fireball spell to use it. Once a spell is approved and added to the Grimoirum, it is available for all magic-wielders to use.
Remember, Non-magical races CANNOT use any spell, whether or not it is in the Grimoirum. However, magical races cannot use ANY of the approved technologies in the Schematics board. This is to prevent any character from being a super-genius engineer in a power-suit raining death-ray spells from the safety of a cloud fortress or something. So think carefully when you create a character as to whether you want a mage or not.
Here's the template for submitting a spell to be added. Please follow the template instructions- it makes it easier for the staff and I to understand what the spell does and how to cast it. Also, please don't submit a spell that's pretty much the same as another spell that already exists. That would just be silly. :-P
All text in bold must remain as-is. All text in italics must be deleted when posting a spell application. The code below is for all spells.
For spells that can also appear in the Colosseum, add the following code beneath the Difficulty section:
If you did it right, the spell should look like this:
Player Name: (Having a character is preferred, but if you, as a player, just want to crank out spells for other people to use, you are allowed to do so. This gives you, as a player, credit for its inception)
Character Name: (This basically serves to give your character due credit as the inventor of the spell.)
Spell Name: (Give your new spell a cool name!)
Effect:[/b] (THIS is the most vital piece of getting a spell approved. Provide, in great detail, EXACTLY what your spell does. Don't just say 'fireball', provide a description of how it works, what it looks like, if it needs a specific target, how it affects the target or area, and what, if any, effect it has on the mage casting it as well. BE DETAILED!)
Modus Operandi: (How the spell is cast. Does it need a target? Does it need a wand, or cauldron, or crystal, or magical words? Does it need to be read out of a book, or require an animal familiar? All spells need SOME sort of MO, even if it is just a thought. Keep in mind, the simpler the MO, the simpler the spell would have to be. Powerful spells will require more complex or difficult MO's.)
Difficulty: (Is it so simple a total n00b could cast it? Explain here. Again, the more complex or powerful a spell is, the less likely a new char can use it)
And a Colosseum only spell should look like this:
Player Name:
Character Name:
Spell Name:
Effect:
Modus Operandi:
Difficulty:
Spirit Cost:
Sanity Cost(if any):
NOTE: If the staff thinks a spell would work well in the Colosseum, we may add Spirit/Sanity cost to it. If you- as the inventor- do not want it to be available to use there, please let us know.
